[ARCHIVED] Increased West Nile Virus Activity in Davis County

Mosquito Abatement

West Nile virus activity in mosquitoes has surged significantly across Davis County this month, with over 40 mosquito pools testing positive for the virus. The Davis County Mosquito Abatement District has been working diligently to manage the mosquito population and reduce the risk of West Nile virus in our community.

Although no human cases have been reported yet, the Davis County Mosquito Abatement District, in partnership with the Davis County Health Department, urges all residents to take extra precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites:

  • Avoid outdoor activities from dusk to dawn: Mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus are most active during these hours.
  • Use EPA-approved insect repellent: Follow the label instructions for proper application and reapplication.
  • Wear protective clothing: Opt for loose-fitting long sleeves and pants when spending time outdoors.
  • Eliminate standing water: Remove any sources of standing water in your yard where mosquitoes can breed.
