[ARCHIVED] Angel Street Construction Update

Paved Road

On November 11th and November 12th, paving crews will be working on repaving the trench and shoulder locations on Angel St between Smith Ln and Tyler’s Way. This Summer’s work along this section of Angel St has been for the installation of 900 feet of underground storm drain piping, stabilization of property accesses and surrounding underground utilities, and backfilling the ditch along the east side of the street to allow for widening of that section and installation of curb and sidewalk along the east side. With the wet conditions in the bottom of the old ditch and the sheer volume of material required to backfill, this section will sit through the winter to observe any consolidation or settlement. In the late Winter/early Spring work will resume to prep for and install the new curb/sidewalk, asphalt to connect the existing road with the new curb and other shoulder work. Rather than installing these improvements now and risk having to remove and replace any new curb or sidewalk that could be damaged due to settlement, the decision was made to postpone this and observe the area through the winter.

This project encountered several difficulties this Summer (both natural and man-made) that delayed it far past what was anticipated, and impacts to residents during the project have been significant, especially for those residents adjacent to the project area. Although the project is not yet complete, and has been frustrating for many, we are eager for the long term benefit and improvement that it will bring.

While Angel St is now open in this section, until paving occurs on the 11th and 12th, the speed limit in this section will be reduced to 15 mph, so as to reduce the amount of dust being kicked up. Traffic control devices will be placed along the east edge of the current pavement through the winter to help keep through traffic off of the backfilled shoulder. Although the project has had significant impact on many, we ask that people please be respectful with speeds in this section, particularly as the area remains unfinished and is in close proximity to nearby schools. Kaysville Police have been notified and will be patrolling the area, as available, to help remind traffic to operate safely and obey posted speed limits.

We’d like to thank everyone for their patience with this and many other projects this Summer. We hope the memories of noise, dust and detour signs will quickly fade with the benefit of the improvements.
