Kaysville GIVES 2024

We Need Your Help!

Kaysville GIVES is a citywide initiative driven by the generosity of our residents, business owners, and city staff. From volunteers who organize and shop to the "Fill the Fire Truck" event featuring the Kaysville Fire Department, City Council, and Youth City Council, everyone plays a vital role in making this program a success each year. We couldn't do it without your kindness and support!

Each year, we collaborate with all Kaysville elementary, junior high, and high schools to support families in need, ensuring Christmas morning is filled with joy and hope. Additionally, we extend our assistance to programs like Mountain High, the Family Enrichment Center, and Safe Harbor, which provide essential resources for students and families in our community.

Our goal for 2024 is to gather over 1,800 Christmas gifts to support more than 130 local families.

Angel of Hope Ceremony

Angel of Hope Candlelight Ceremony: A Night of Remembrance and Healing

The Christmas Box Angel of Hope statue stands as a beacon of hope for parents and families who have lost children. It serves as a poignant symbol, offering solace and comfort to those seeking healing and remembrance. This statue reminds us that, even in the darkest times, a glimmer of hope prevails. Kaysville was honored to receive one of these angels last year at the Kaysville City Cemetery (located on the southwest corner at 500 East Crestwood Drive), made possible by the generosity of local residents and businesses.

Join us in remembering these lost children at the annual candlelight and rose ceremony held at the Kaysville Cemetery on December 6 at 7:00 pm. Candles, roses, and refreshments will be provided. The ceremony will take place regardless of weather conditions. We hope this gathering provides solace during the challenging holiday season, offering support and understanding to those navigating grief.

Criddle Memorial and flagpole, followed by the laying of wreaths on Veterans' graves.

Railroad Crossing Update

Update on Woods Cross Quiet Zone Compliance and Mitigation Efforts

Woods Cross City, which has agreed to take responsibility on behalf of the cities within the "Woods Cross Quiet Zone"—including Kaysville—has been coordinating efforts with other cities and agencies in the zone to ensure compliance at railroad crossings from Ogden to Salt Lake City. The city is also compiling information regarding the temporary suspension of the Woods Cross Quiet Zone enacted by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and has been releasing updates to address related questions.

In their latest update, dated November 11, they reported that North Salt Lake City and Salt Lake City engineers are working diligently on projects to bring the 1000 West and Main Street crossings into compliance. According to the update:

"We understand that the FRA began conducting its own inspections in 2021, and the FRA inspector’s interpretation of the code has differed from that of the individuals who conducted the previous inspections. The Woods Cross Quiet Zone group is appealing to the FRA’s administrative authority to approve the waivers and immediately reinstate the quiet zone for the benefit of citizens whose sleep and peace are negatively impacted by the train horns."

Snow Plow

Winter is Coming: Snow Plow Operations and Removal Guidelines

Our Kaysville City Public Works team works diligently to remove ice from roads as quickly and safely as possible, prioritizing smooth traffic flow across the city and ensuring critical access for emergency services. Snow removal efforts focus first on primary roads with the highest regular and emergency traffic, with the number of plows and materials used adjusted to match weather conditions.

This demanding work often requires our Public Works employees to brave the worst weather during early mornings and late nights, salting and plowing to keep our streets safe. Next time you see one of our snowplow drivers, give them a smile or wave—they deserve our gratitude for their dedication!

Did you know you could track city snowplows in real time during snowstorms? Check it out here: Snow Plow Map - LIVE to view!

Snow Removal

Snow Removal from Sidewalks

Kaysville City Ordinance 9-2-3 requires property owners to keep public sidewalks adjoining their property clear of snow and ice. This ensures safe travel for all residents and helps prevent accidents.

Additionally, it is prohibited to shovel or blow snow onto streets. City Ordinance 9-2-10 bans pushing, blowing, or depositing snow, leaves, or debris onto the roadway, as this can create hazards by freezing and reducing traction. These actions can also interfere with plowing operations and create safety risks for both residents and city crews.

Residents often ask if snowplow drivers can avoid leaving snow in driveways. While our crews work hard to minimize this, it is not always possible to prevent snow from being pushed into driveways as plows clear the streets. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in keeping our community safe and accessible.

Fire Hydrant Snow Removal

Snow Removal Around Fire Hydrants

If you have a fire hydrant near your home, please keep the area around it free of snow. Clear a perimeter of at least 3 feet around the hydrant and create a clear path from the hydrant to the street. This ensures firefighters can quickly and safely access it in case of an emergency.

Winter Parking

Winter Parking Ordinance in Effect

It’s that time of year again, cold weather, smog, space heaters and winter parking restrictions. From November 1st – March 1st, between 12:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m., vehicles are not allowed to park on city streets (City Code 6-2b-4(8)). Please make sure your vehicles are off the roadways to allow plows to safely clear the roads.  We are certain you won’t want to receive a Christmas card from the Kaysville Police Department this year. We will be issuing citations whether it snows or not.  Thank you for helping us with this matter.

Cemetery Irrigation Project

Kaysville Cemetery Irrigation Upgrade

We are excited to announce a major irrigation improvement project at the Kaysville City Cemetery. This comprehensive project involves a full replacement of the irrigation system in sections A, B, C, D, and E, covering 15 acres. The work includes installing new irrigation pipes, valves, and sprinkler heads while retiring the existing system.

Work is already underway and is expected to be completed by May 2025.

During this time, there may be temporary closures or limited access to certain areas of the cemetery as the project progresses. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we make these necessary improvements to better serve our community. Thank you for your support!

Green Waste Recycling during Winter

What to Do with Your Green Waste Recycling Can During Winter Months

Green waste recycling is done with city-issued green cans. From April 1 to November 30, the can is designated solely for acceptable green recyclable items. During winter months (December 1 to March 31), however, the green waste container may be used for regular household waste.

For more information, visit: Green Waste Recycling.

Holiday Recycling Tips

Celebrate the Holidays with Less Waste: 6 Simple Tips

The holidays are a time for joy, celebration, gratitude, and gathering with friends and family, but it typically is a time of more waste. According to the EPA, the amount of household garbage can increase up to 25% during the holiday season. Here are six ways you can reduce waste during the holidays, while still enjoying all the festivities.

1)    Reduce Food Waste
Before you go grocery shopping with your reusable bags, determine how many people you’ll be cooking for to avoid buying excess food. This will help you save money and throw less food in the trash. Freeze any leftovers and compost any food scraps.

2)    Recycle Your Cardboard Boxes
We all love the convenience of online shopping, but it adds extra packaging compared to shopping in person. Make sure to flatten your cardboard and place them in your recycling can. Cardboard is very recyclable. Recycling one ton of cardboard saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and a significant amount of energy!

3)    Choose Recyclable Wrapping Paper or Reusable Gift Bags
Most wrapping paper is not recyclable due to non-fiber additives, such as glitter, foil, and plastic. Choose wrapping paper that states it is recyclable or brown paper. Even better, try out reusable gift bags that you can continue to use throughout the year.

4)    Shop Locally
This is a great way to reduce waste and support local businesses by shopping in person. It will also cut back on transportation impacts by purchasing something made in your community, rather than another country.

5)    Gift Experiences, Not Stuff
Gifts don’t always have to be a physical item. There are many experiences that can be gifted, such as restaurant or spa gift cards, NBA or ski resort tickets, and much more. You can also donate to a charity that someone you love cares about.

6)    Upcycle Your Christmas Tree
Up until January 31st, 2025, Wasatch Integrated will accept your Christmas tree for free! They process the trees into Christmas tree mulch, which smells delicious and is great for plants that like acidic organic matter. Make sure when you drop off your tree that all inorganic decorations are removed, such as lights, ornaments, etc.

We hope these tips help you have a less wasteful holiday season. Happy holidays!

Clover Club

Clover Club Foods Exhibit: A Journey Through Local History

The Clover Club Foods Company display at the Kaysville-Fruit Heights Museum is open for viewing through February 2025. The exhibit, located in Kaysville City Hall (23 East Center Street), is available during city business hours. It features a detailed timeline of the company, along with memorabilia and artwork for visitors to explore. A one-page timeline will also be available as a souvenir.

Given that many current residents have worked at the Kaysville factory or for the company, interactive components will be offered at various times throughout the exhibit period.

Join us in December for Collectible Clover Club recipes, with a different recipe each week!

In January, recorded memories from former employees will be available for listening. Finally, in February, there will be a trivia and scavenger hunt game!

If you have memorabilia you'd like to display or donate, please email Fawn or Kris at ourkaysvillestory@gmail.com. We look forward to celebrating this piece of Kaysville history with you!
