2024 Presidential Nomination March 5, 2024The presidential candidate nominations by political parties are set for March 5, 2024. Your participation is crucial in determining each party's nominees for the November General Election. Utah Election Law allows each political party to choose how they select their nominee for President of the United States and to determine who is eligible to participate, based upon political party affiliation. Only the Democratic and Republican parties have indicated their participation in this process in 2024. REPUBLICAN PARTYThe Republican Party of Utah has chosen not to participate in the State's Presidential Primary Election, and instead will hold a Preference Poll in conjunction with statewide caucus meetings. Voters eligible to participate in the poll will be restricted to those who are registered to vote as affiliated members of the Republican Party. Caucus meetings will be held on March 5, 2024 starting at 7:00 PM. Registration will begin at 6:00 PM. Participants are encouraged to preregister prior to the caucus meeting, and to arrive at the meeting early. Preregistering will significantly speed up the check-in process. When you preregister, an absentee presidential preference poll ballot and a ballot to vote for delegates and/or precinct leadership will be emailed to you. If you cannot attend a caucus in person, you still have an opportunity to participate absentee. Visit the Utah Republican Party's website for more details: utgop.gov. Look up your Caucus Location Pre-Register Now 2024 Republican Candidates DEMOCRATIC PARTYThe Democratic Party of Utah has chosen to participate in the State's Primary Election, which will be held on March 5, 2024. They have chosen to allow both individuals registered with other political parties, and unaffiliated voters to participate. Voters affiliated with the Democratic Party should have already received their ballot in the mail. All other voters can request a ballot from the Davis County Clerk's office. Help Prevent Flooding by Keeping Storm Drains ClearKeeping neighborhood storm drains clear is essential for proper water drainage, as clogs can lead to localized flooding and pollution of waterways. Residents can help prevent flooding by clearing debris from storm grates and surrounding areas using basic tools like gloves, a broom, rake, and trash bag. Clearing debris from gutters and sidewalks, including leaves and lawn clippings, is also helpful, as anything on the pavement can wash into storm drains when it rains. Never remove the storm drain grate or otherwise attempt to clean the inside of the storm drain. If the storm drain seems to be plugged, contact Public Works and they will send workers to address the issue.

Recreational Fire Pits & Open BurningWhat is "open burning"? Put simply, it is the burning of any combustible materials where the fire doesn't have a chimney or stack. A campfire, fire pit, or bonfire are all types of open fire. Burning may not occur on "Restricted" action days, as reported through the State Division of Air Quality (DAQ). Kaysville City Ordinance does not allow the following to be burned: -- Rubbish or garbage including but not limited to food wastes, food wraps, packaging, animal carcasses, paint or painted materials, furniture, composite shingles, construction or demolition debris or other household or business wastes. -- Waste oil or other oily wastes except used oil burned in a heating device for energy recovery. -- Asphalt and products containing asphalt. -- Treated or painted wood including but not limited to plywood, composite wood products or other wood products that are painted, varnished or treated with preservatives. -- Any plastic material including but not limited to nylon, PVC, ABS, polystyrene or urethane foam, and synthetic fabrics, plastic films and plastic containers. -- Rubber including tires and synthetic rubber-like products. These items above can be hauled to the local landfill to be disposed of. Recreational Fire (Fire Pits)Fire pits are allowed within city limits without a permit as long as they are confined within a control device or structure, such as a barrel, fire ring, or fire pit. Fires must be kept at least 50 feet away from buildings, and fire pits must be under 3 feet in diameter and no taller than 2 feet. Portable outdoor fireplaces, defined by and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, are not regulated by Code. A responsible adult over 18 must supervise the fire until it's completely out and must have access to fire extinguishing tools. Recreational fires should only be used for cooking or leisure activities. Agricultural BurningAgricultural burning includes the burning of orchard pruning, field stubble, and weeds. To meet the requirements of an agricultural burn, the property must have at least 2 acres for agricultural use or be an orchard of at least 25 fruit/nut trees. The Kaysville Fire Department must be notified prior to burning.

2023 Firefighter of the Year AwardEarlier in the month, Firefighter Cameron McKinnon was presented with the Kaysville Fire Department's 2023 Firefighter of the Year Award by Fire Chief Erickson during the City Council Meeting. This year, out of three nominated employees, Cameron McKinnon stood out with two nominations from his peers. With over a decade of service under his belt, Cameron is an indispensable asset to the city and the department alike. Cameron’s contributions to the department are multifaceted. He plays a crucial role in data collection for justifications, has helped in crafting their career development plan to guide their firefighters toward a successful future, and assists in compiling their annual report each year. Additionally, Cameron taught an ADO (Apparatus Driver/Operator) class which resulted in the certification of three individuals. Despite their department’s size, Cameron’s wit on their social media sites has helped them to become one of the most liked fire departments in the state. Furthermore, Cameron’s part-time position at Davis County Dispatch adds value and is an asset to the department. His commitment to personal and professional growth is evident in his pursuit of continuous learning through additional classes. Cameron's recent promotion to Captain on January 29 underscores his exemplary work ethic and leadership qualities. It is with great pride that we honor Cameron McKinnon as the Firefighter of the Year for 2023, recognizing his outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to excellence.
