Pressure Irrigation/Secondary Water

Kaysville City has three different secondary water providers with systems in the city: Benchland Water District, Davis & Weber Counties Canal Company, and Haights Creek. Each is operated independently from the city and has their own rules, rates and schedules. Each will have their own water restrictions and enforcement. Please visit their individual websites to find out more information or if you have questions about outside watering. You can determine who your service provider is by going HERE.

Due to excessive snow accumulations this winter, our start-up date to charge the lines will be delayed to April 24th. Residents should make sure their valves are closed before this date to prevent flooding. We encourage our water users to delay using the water until landscapes need it.

During recent seasons our water district users have cooperated in conserving our drought stricken reduced water supply.  Our objective this season is to provide a full season of service.  If we are unable to go to the end of the irrigation season, the irrigation season will be shortened by draining the system when we no longer have the water resource to maintain pressure.  We enlist your cooperation to help us provide a full season of service.

DO NOT - Water between 10 am and 6 pm.  This time of day is the hottest time of day and water tends to evaporate quickly.

DO NOT - Water your sidewalks, driveways, or roadways.

DO NOT - Water your landscape for more than the recommended length of time or time frequencies. When watering sloped areas where water runs off easily, water slow and in short five minute increments to ensure effective absorption and less run off.

Turf studies have shown that most lawns need to be watered only once every 3 or 4 days to stay healthy and green.  Watering everyday creates shallow roots.  Watering infrequently develops deep roots and healthier turf.  Grass roots grow deeper into the soil and become stronger with less watering.  If grass does not spring back after being stepped on, it’s time to water.   Adjusting the lawn mower to a higher setting will retain moisture by allowing taller grass to shade roots and hold moisture.

Watering Guide:
April - Once every 6 days
May - Once every 4 days
June - Once every 3 days
July - Once every 3 days
August - Once every 3 days
September - Once every 6 days
October until shut off - once every 10 days

Secondary Water Update

Winter is not over yet! The snowpack is at record levels, and water management measures are occurring to regulate reservoirs, minimize flooding, and sending water to the Great Salt Lake. Due to the continued snow and rain, the secondary water system will not be pressurized until May 1st. Even then, the need for watering yards will be unnecessary since everything is saturated.

We ask that you plan to continue to use the secondary water wisely so that more water can get to the Great Salt Lake and we can have sufficient water left in storage in the river system for next year. Please adjust your watering based on the weather, referencing the State website (http://www.conservewater.utah.gov/).

We ask that you water no more than two times a week between May-June and September-October, and no more than 3 times a week in July and August (hotter months). If you’re interested in getting a rebate for smart controllers and other water efficient fixtures, see https://utahwatersavers.com/ .

The State requires meters on all new secondary water services and we are retrofitting existing services with meters. We are sending water use reports to those with meters in an effort to better educate the end user and better manage our limited water resources. Please contact us (meters@davisweber.org) and provide an email address so the report can be sent to you monthly.

Check our website, www.davisweber.org, for further updates or restrictions. Remember to ensure your system is secure and ready for service by May 1st prior to us pressurizing the system.

Haights Creek will begin charging the water lines on Monday morning, May 1st. It takes approximately 3-4 days to fill all of our water lines. The upper part of Fruit Heights and Kaysville should start to receive water Monday morning, the west Kaysville part of the company will begin to see water Wednesday and possibly Thursday.

Please be sure to close your personal valve to prevent water leaks and flooding. If you see water coming out of irrigation boxes, please close the customers personal valve or call Haights Creek Irrigation to close company valves.

Water Restrictions & General Rules:

- Absolutely NO Watering between 10am and 6pm.

- To continue our water conservation efforts, we are asking customers to limit watering lawns to 3 days a week per cycle with 20 minutes for pop up sprayers and 40 minutes for rotator heads and drip systems.

- Do not let water run off property.

- Please turn off sprinkler system if raining or expected rain is forecast.

We all need to carry on with our conservation endeavors.
